Understanding Ski “Pressure”
Most skiers think “more pressure on the outside ski” means pushing harder. The truth? Pressure isn’t something you create—it’s something you receive.
By Andrew Elsdon·

“Get more pressure on the outside ski.” You have heard it from every instructor you've ever had. And so you push. You drive the outside leg down into the snow, the ski skids, the turn gets rougher, and you push harder.
Here is the thing nobody told you: pressure isn't something you create. It's something you receive.
When a ski is tipped on edge and travelling in an arc, the snow pushes back against it. That push is the pressure. Your job is not to make it; it's to stand in a place where you can accept it.
